[DIY Craft] Yarn Heart Decorations

Make your own decor! Try these 3D Hearts made of yarn.

What you will need:

  1. Yarn (in your favorite colours)
  2. Cardboard box (the thick kind with a corrugated center, but not too think that you can’t cut it)
  3. Heart template (you can make your own out of cardboard. I got mine from a small chocolate box)
  4. Pen/pencil (for tracing your template on to the cardboard)
  5. Scissors (a sturdy pair for cutting cardboard)
  6. Sellotape (I prefer the wide packaging tape)
  7. Darning needle (large enough to thread your yarn through)
  8. Tape measure or ruler

HOW TO…

Trace your heart template on to your cardboard.

Roughly cut out your hearts (this makes it easier to cut them out neatly).

As neatly as you can cut out your hearts. These will supply the structure for your yarn wrapping.

Using your darning needle thread a 20cm long piece of yarn through your cardboard heart 1cm from the edge. Tie the ends of the yarn with a secure knot.

Thread the yarn through the cardboard until the knot is against the cardboard and tape securely.

Bring the end of your ball of yarn through the yarn loop you just made and tape it securely to the cardboard.

Wrap the yarn around the cardboard heart until you can no longer see the cardboard.

Once your cardboard heart is fully wrapped, cut the yarn and tie it securely to the yarn loop. Trim the excess yarn or use the darning needle to hide the end inside the yarn heart.

All done!
