Anyone who owns mice knows how much they love to hide and sleep. These cute little DIY bags are a perfect accessory that you can easily make at home from recycled fabrics.
Great fabrics to upcycle include:
- Dressing gowns
- Polar fleece blankets
- Flannel pajamas
- Sweatshirts
- Track pants
- Outer fabrics of large soft toys
- Thick fabric off cuts
- Denim jeans
What you’ll need to make a mouse snuggle bag:
- Fabric
- Scissors/rotary cutter
- Tape measure/ruler
- Thread
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Sewing needle
Instructions
Step One: Cut out two rectangular pieces of fabric measuring 15cm x 28cm. I like to use contrasting colours. A soft fabric for the inside and a sturdy fabric for the outer.
Step Two: Fold the first rectangle in half; with the good side of the fabric facing inwards. Sew the 15cm ends together (1cm from the fabric edge) to create a sleeve. Repeat with second rectangle. You should now have two fabric tubes.
Step Three: Place one fabric tube inside the other; with the good sides of the fabric facing together. Sew around the first end on the fabric tube (1cm from edge); joining the two pieces of fabric together but maintaining the tube shape (two open ends).
Step Four: Remove the internal section of fabric to create a long tube. With the good side of the fabrics facing together, sew one of the open ends closed. You will now have a long rectangular pouch.
Step Five: With the good side of the fabrics still facing together sew the remaining open end 1/3 closed from the left and 1/3 closed from the right; leaving an open gap of 1/3 in the middle.
Step Six: Turn the snuggle bag in the right way by pushing it through the opening you left in one of the ends. Once fabric is facing right way out, use a needle and thread to sew the opening shut.
Step Seven: Push the internal lining fabric into the outer fabric to create a pouch/bag. Then sew around the opening to fasten the inner and outer fabrics together (about 2cm from the rim).
And there you have it, your very own mouse snuggle bag.
